DHH Deaf, Hard of Hearing Program

Ballou Junior High is proud to host a specialized Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) program that supports students with hearing loss through a Total Communication approach. This inclusive model incorporates both spoken language (when appropriate) and American Sign Language (ASL) to meet each student’s unique communication needs.

Key Features of the Program

  • Individualized Instruction & Support: Students receive tailored support to access grade-level curriculum using:

    • Classroom interpreters

    • Subtitles and captioning

    • Visual learning aids

    • Audiological amplification equipment
       

  • Dedicated DHH Classroom: Led by a certified Teacher of the Deaf, the classroom provides a focused environment for language development and academic growth.
     

  • Specialized Speech-Language Services: Students benefit from access to a speech-language pathologist with experience in working with Deaf and hard of hearing learners.
     

  • On-Site Audiology Services: Ballou offers support through:

    • District audiologists

    • An on-campus sound booth for audiological assessments
